Kingfisher Hall & Enfield Heights introduce Power of Reading for Reception

From January 2019, Reception have introduced a new literacy scheme called ‘Power of Reading’. This scheme enables schools to raise engagement and attainment in reading and writing for all pupils.

Every 3-4 weeks, children will gradually be introduced to a new book and all areas of learning and activities will focus on aspects of the story. For example, over the past three weeks, children have explored the story of the ‘Blue Penguin’.

They have delved into all areas of the story, including a number of underlying themes such as feelings, kindness and being different from one another. Furthermore, children have explored Antarctica, polar regions and arctic animals.

Children will continue to engage in other key texts throughout the year to encourage reading and writing along with all other areas of learning in fun and engaging ways.
