Children learn about the immigration history of Great Britain

Year 5 have been learning about their new topic “Island of Immigrants”.

In this topic, pupils have started learning about the different groups of people who have migrated to Britain throughout history.

The first group of people the children have studied are the Vikings. Pupils used their design skills and built their own Viking longboat. A Viking longboat was a type of specialised Scandinavian warship.

A new study revealed that as many as 35,000 Vikings migrated from Denmark to England between the 9th and 10th centuries.
